Meagan Noel Hart

About
Meagan Noel Hart is a writing contest junkie and lover of words who has been chasing stories her whole life. She has a B.S. in Mass Communications and a B.A. in English from Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville, and an MFA in Creative Writing and Publishing Arts from the University of Baltimore. Her work spans many genres, including literary flash fiction, comedy, horror, sci fi and fantasy, and the occasional poem, but always focuses on the weird, quirky, relationships we have in the world. She has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize in fiction and a Best of the Net for Poetry. Her collections include Twisted Together, A Short Stack of Silly Shorts for the Morally Sidetracked, and Whispers and Fangs. She was also the guest managing editor for Writing Alone and Other Group Activities. When she isn't writing creatively, she's writing about writing, crafting educational content and curriculum, or coordinating experiential learning events and opportunities.
She has fourteen years experience teaching in higher education, and currently works under her married name at Stevenson University as the Director of Experiential Learning & Senior Lecturer of English. This includes being the Coordinator for Global Game Jam and Faculty Editorial Advisor for The Greenspring Review. She teaches a wide host of classes in writing, publishing, and digital humanities, and has designed 12 courses in her time at Stevenson. Some unique courses include Video Games as Literature, Writing Video Games and Other Interactive Literature, Life is Strange Power Dynamics, Mental Health in Literature, Modern Adaptations. In addition to teaching Digital Publishing, Fiction and Advanced Fiction, she also teaches special topics in Creative Writing, such as Writing Through Experience, and Storytelling, which focuses on the art of oral performance and stories as communication.

In the summer, she is the director of the Stevenson Summer Writer's Workshop where she ensures the availability of creative writing programming for grades 5th-12th in the Owings Mills, MD area. Since taking over, she's expanded the program to include a student edited literary magazine and the Creative Bridge program, which pairs graduated seniors with faculty authors for individualized, one on one writing instruction.

Her work as a collaborator and leader, and her commitment to community and learning, earned her recognition as a 2022 Global Game Jam Scholar.

While she grew up mostly in Southern Illinois, she currently lives in Baltimore, Maryland with her husband, two rambunctious and utterly lovable boys, two bull mastiffs, and three cats. She enjoys baking, gaming, and anything that gets her outside.
